Chairman
“As an immigrant to Canada, I’ve shared the desire to gain new skills, new opportunities and an enriched life. As a lifelong traveller I’ve explored new geographies and new cultures – and like many of our students and staff I’ve grown through experiences outside my comfort zone. I’ve been privileged to co-lead ILSC Education Group for the last 20 years, working with an inspiring and talented group of colleagues to build schools that welcome international students from around the globe to participate in transformative learning and living experiences in Australia, Canada, the USA, and India. We empower through education.”
Founder
Chief Executive Officer
“I have always loved to travel. During a six-month secondment in Belfast, I had a transformative working and living experience. I was challenged at work, connected with colleagues, made great friends and my family joined me to experience the adventure together. Since then, Irish dancing and rugby communities continue to be part of my life and those new memories stem directly from my secondment. The experience cemented the benefit of saying yes to work opportunities and truly immersing myself in the journey.”
Chief Sales & Marketing Officer
“In the early 1980s I went to live and work as an English language teacher in Bilbao in the Basque Country in Spain. Initially the experience was challenging as my spoken Spanish was incredibly weak. But I persevered and by the time I left Bilbao I was fluent in Spanish and I'd gained my first valuable work experience in international education. The confidence this gave me for my future work in international education reminds of the life changing opportunity that thousands of ILSC & Greystone students grasp for themselves when they travel to Australia or Canada to embark on their own transformative educational journeys.”
Chief Financial Officer
“I’ve always felt that challenging our limits and boundaries are the keys to growing as individuals. Completing my first half marathon in 2016 and then second in 2018 was a transformational experience for me. After multiple injuries and setbacks and being told by professionals that it couldn’t/shouldn’t be done, I set out to do it anyways. I’ve learned that working towards a larger goal can be completed by taking advantage of small triumphs. I’ve also developed the mental fortitude to push through obstacles, both mental and physical. The experience and mantra carry me through all the challenges I face.”
Vice President, Technology
“I’ve always been keen taking on new challenges without a clear path ahead, and in August 2001, it was Vancouver Island's West Coast Trail. This hike wasn’t about the quality of our gear, knowledge of what each segment of trail commanded, or being an expert outdoorsman; for me, it was about being comfortable with ambiguity, helping and encouraging others when they needed it, being kind to everyone as you never know what you may need that yourself, and perseverance. It’s your character that will define the path ahead.”
Vice President of Human Resources
“Transformation for me has been the lifelong pursuit of growth through understanding, of acknowledging that inner voice of doubt and moving towards those challenges anyways. Transformation has always tended to happen when focusing on being present and being curious, in the little moments just as much as the big experiences; taking the time to listen and learn from others, through healthy debates of ideas, through travel, and challenging myself to run, cycle and walk wherever I am.”
Executive Vice President Operations / Business Affairs
"They say that once you 'get the bug' for working in international education, it’s hard to think of doing anything else. You literally work with the world-greeting students from so many countries and cultures, working with overseas business partners; collaborating with colleagues who all have some connection to other countries -through birth, living experiences, family, etc. to the many international offices of our university partners.
Born in Europe, and having lived in the Middle East as a child, I arrived in the US in my twenties. With a teaching degree in English language, I quickly found my way into this industry and never looked back. It has also been such a fulfilling experience for me, and also wonderful for my children to be immersed in Mom's world full of international friends, colleagues, trips and experiences. Aside from my passion for what we do, my greatest pride are my two children, and I take great joy and relaxation in baking elaborate desserts."
Vice President, Australian Operations
“I believe the real transformative experience never ends. We're in constant change and should embrace that as one of the most exciting aspects of life. I have had several key moments where true transformation happened. Doing the Inka Trail with my 60-year-old dad was both physically demanding and inspirational. Coming to Australia as an international student without much planning was dreading and exciting. Taking up a new sport in my 30’s was challenging and rewarding. Stepping out of my comfort zone to develop new skills was painful and worthwhile. Interacting and learning from others was delicate and essential. But, above all, becoming a father has been (and will continue to be) the most transformative and beautiful experience of all.”
Vice President, Canadian Operations
“I have had the privilege of being an international student on different occasions, both in Canada and England, and each one of these experiences has transformed me in the most fascinating ways. I have learned to adapt to different cultures, connect with new people, welcome tastes and sounds that were completely new to me, and embrace the adventure of diving into the unknown. Working at ILSC allows me to give back and work towards creating similarly magical experiences for all the students who join us to learn new skills, develop their competencies, discover new worlds and become better versions of themselves.”
Executive Vice President Global Sales
“Living in Mexico from the ages of 4 to 11 opened my eyes to different cultures and ways of thinking. This experience taught me that education and cultural understanding are key to fostering prosperity and peace. As a result, I developed a strong connection to Mexico and Latin America, which continues to positively influence both my professional and personal life. I was also introduced to the guitar during my time in Mexico. To this day, I enjoy playing the guitar and exploring my creative side.
I am passionate about education and its transformative power. Since starting my career in the international education industry in 1999, I have had the opportunity to engage with a wide range of cultures and learn the importance of mutual understanding. As Nelson Mandela famously said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." I firmly believe in the potential of education to change lives and create a better future for individuals and communities.”
President, Greystone Institute
“Growing up I lived in 12 cities, 21 houses in 5 countries, and went to 14 different schools. As an adult, I worked solely in multicultural teams and industries, as well as traveling and living abroad for work and artistic passions. Some places were urban high density cities like Tokyo, others remote like the forty-two family outpost in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. My first piano teacher when I was 8, was a Korean woman who spoke no English, she was my teacher for 2 years. Moving around taught me to love and let go, to be more fluid and try and flow through change or uncertainty; that communication is not reliant on only speaking and that you don’t have to see someone to hold them in your heart forever. Working at ILSC has been an intrinsic and joyous part of that journey of understanding and growth.”
National Director
Campus Operations (Australia)
“I’ve had many transformative experiences in my life, but one that stands out is getting involved in the annual Indo-Canadian hockey tournament in the town of Leh, Ladakh, India while I was School Director in New Delhi. Thinking back to my own youth, growing up with this traditional Canadian sport, it was amazing to see the familiar joy it brought to local kids in Ladakh, to be part of creating this cultural bridge and inspiring ILSC schools to participate in donating hockey equipment to this amazing project.”
National Director ELICOS & Pathways, ILSC Australia
"The most impactful and transformative experience that undoubtedly changed my life was that of being an international student in Europe. The power of quality teaching, alongside the thrills and spills of full linguistic and cultural immersion, hurtled me straight into a career in international education. The beauty of having developed a global network of friends through this experience has been a lifelong privilege I have greatly enjoyed, and over the years I reciprocated by hosting Japanese and Chinese homestay students in Australia. This interconnectivity is deeply rewarding on both a personal and professional level, and I am fiercely proud of our daily mission of helping empower others through global education, be they students or staff. I firmly believe that study travel is possibly one of the most exciting undertakings a human being can ever embark upon!"
National Director, Language & Pathways
“Collectively, I have spent more than 20 (transformative) years of my life at different schools, as a student. I have also been a teacher for the same number of years. I am hopeful that (as a teacher) I managed to inspire the same transformation that I experienced as a student myself, in my own students. And then, there is the transformation brought about through exposure to different cultures. That, I owe to my travels and, more importantly, to my job at ILSC because I am fortunate to see the world everyday without leaving home.”
National Director, Junior & Corporate
“I started my ILSC journey over 10 years ago as a CELTA student, uncertain of the future ahead of me. This ignited a passion for teaching, and I became an ESL teacher at ILSC. My passion for teaching language and immersing myself in different cultures led me to Japan where I hiked up mountains, experienced spiritual growth and met wonderful people. I then travelled to Vietnam where I zipped around the city of Hanoi on a motorbike, carefree and living in the moment. When it was time to return home, I found myself back to where it all started; ILSC.
I am now the Director of ILSC Montréal and have just recently embarked on the most transformative journey of all: motherhood. I am forever changed and excited to see what’s next.”
National Director, Student Services
“My interest in exploring the world started when I was a kid flipping through the pages of my parents' stack of National Geographic magazines fantasizing about the adventures I would have when I grew up. The adventures finally began when I moved to Osaka, Japan to teach English after graduating from university. From then on, I haven't stopped. I've travelled the world, have met some awesome people along the way from whom I've learned so much, and have done some pretty incredible things that have transformed me. I've made sure that I continue working in an international environment that allows me to collaborate with others who have the same love of travel and similar life-changing experiences. For this reason, I feel lucky and proud to be a member of the ILSC team.”
Director, New Delhi
Director, New Delhi
“Straight after unversity, I moved to Eastern Europe where I worked and travelled for 8 years. Strangely enough, coming back to India was a bigger culture shock than leaving. ILSC New Delhi is the first job I've had in India that has made me feel like I belong. I've met an amazing set of people who are like family to me. In the last couple of years, I've learnt so much about people and relationships which has made me get to know myself even better. The journey has finally begun!”
Senior Director, US Operations
"We are privileged to work in an industry that inherently provides transformative experiences to everyone involved. Teaching English is much more than just language mechanics; we transform our students' lives and give them opportunities they may not have had otherwise. In return, we get to experience their own unique cultures and backgrounds.
My whole life has been in ESL. Born in Eastern Europe and coming to the US with no prior English knowledge, I can easily empathize with the challenges our students face. I am also able to boost their confidence by sharing my own experiences. The American dream is alive and well!"
Global Brand Director
“I have had the opportunity to work with a local restaurant chain on numerous occasions to help feed and serve meals to the homeless and in-need families in Vancouver. Giving back feels amazing, and this experience has taught me empathy and helped me realize that poverty is more about circumstances – the circumstances I was born and raised into gave me a huge advantage. I encourage everyone to go out and spend a day at a homeless shelter and see what lessons you can learn that could help you grow as a person and in your business.”
Global Admissions Director
“Growing up in a small city in Brazil, my transformative experience started with the internet. Chatting with people from different countries triggered my curiosity about the world. From studying tourism to being an exchange student, moving to Canada 6 years ago as an immigrant was the cherry on top of the cake. Through my experiences learning different languages, working and studying in a multicultural environment and discovering new cultures, I’ve just learned that the world can be so big but yet, too small. Embracing our differences, nurturing our cultures, and celebrating our diversity can have a great impact in the world we want to build for the future.”
Admissions Director, USA
“My passion for global experiences and cultural exchange began at the age of 8 when I participated in an exchange program from rural Vermont to inner city Philadelphia. By the time I finished high school, I had learned Spanish and French and participated in exchanges to Canada, France, and Costa Rica. I spent a semester in Spain during college, and after completing my education, I managed Study Abroad programs in Madrid for US university students. This journey has given me valuable international experience and a profound understanding of the needs of students from diverse backgrounds. I am constantly amazed at what our students accomplish through perseverance and exceptional onsite support. I am proud to be a part in continuing to make a positive impact and helping students to achieve their goals.”
Global Director of Strategic Pricing & Analytics
“I came to Canada as an international student 20 years ago. After finishing my study, I always wanted to help other international students to have the best experience. Then I met ILSC. I could share my story with international students and could see them having a transformative experience in their lives. It is just an amazing experience to be with others learning and growing.”
Global Sales Director, Australia
“I’ve always been a curious soul wanting to travel and read about the world beyond where I am from, South Korea. I started my career as a librarian following my love of books then moving on to working for airline to pursue international travel to feed my curiosity, then ended up in Australia since 2002. I did not stop traveling up until last year then started falling in love with yoga and meditation over the last 2 years getting to know more about myself through nurturing my mind and body. With ILSC, I have been able to shape shift with so much love and joy. Beautiful people at ILSC have always inspired and influenced me to become who I am today and I look forward to my ever-expanding journey with ILSC.”
Global Sales Director, USA / Regional Sales Director, EMEA
“As part of my bachelor’s degree, I spent a year in semi-rural France as an English language assistant in 1992/93 then, for want of any clear long term career plan, I spent a further year teaching English in Lithuania in 1994/95 in a public high school. These two experiences gave me a desire to work in international education and I have spent the last 22 years working with agents and students to achieve their study abroad goals.
Over the years I have had the great fortune to work across many different markets, both mature and developing, but in recent years much of my focus has been on Africa – not only has this allowed me to hone my language skills but also, helping those with far fewer opportunities available to them in their home country than we are used to, fits in perfectly with the ethos of ILSC – Empowerment through Education.”
Sales Director, Canada
“I grew up in a small, rural community where the people, culture and viewpoints were, for the most part, the same. My very first experience with travel was when I moved to the “big” city. We undergo transformation when we experience anything new or outside from ourselves. This move within Canada was the first time I had this experience, and I was hooked. Through our incredible industry, I’ve had the opportunity to continue to travel and explore the globe. For me, beyond the travel and exposure to new places, it’s the connection with new people, culture, and ideas that is the most exciting. We learn and grow through these connections so the opportunity to connect and collaborate with people from around the globe is truly special to me.”
Regional Sales Director, Asia
“The first real transformative experience in my life was travelling to Europe as a university student. I fell in love with the different cultures and perspectives. This trip led me to a career as a travel guide, where I could explore different countries and peoples. Understanding the world from different viewpoints changed my life forever and led me overseas to Canada 22 years ago, and I’ve been in the education industry for the last 18 years. As an immigrant myself, I’m proud to help people who study abroad and look for new cultural experiences and adventures.”
Sales Director, Brazil
“Coming from Brazil I always dreamed of travelling the world, meeting new people and learning about other cultures. I knew that English would be a big piece for this dream come true. After some years investing in studying English, I decided to “live the language” and came to Canada first for 6 months and after as an immigrant. Since then, so much happened; I had opportunity to live in Australia and to travel to so many places. Today Canada is my home and I feel so happy that I had the courage to chase my dreams. Learning English transformed my life and opened many amazing opportunities - it gave me the assurance to believe that people are very powerful and anything is possible.”
Sales Manager, Central Canada
“Through my various lived experiences, I have become an advocate for education, cultural exchange and social empowerment and it has become key to my life. Representing Colombian cuisine in a contest in Cuba and studying Tourism in Lima broadened my horizons, fostering a global perspective. Engaging with vulnerable communities in Colombia instilled in me both empathy and a sense of purpose. Studying in Canada was transformative, pushing me beyond my comfort zone and facilitating my personal growth. Bringing my parents to Canada for the first-time epitomized my gratitude for their unwavering support and reinforced the importance of familial bonds. Finally, being interviewed by El Tiempo, one of Colombia's leading magazines, allowed me to play a role in inspiring many Colombians to immigrate to Canada through education. And I hope to be prepared for everything that is to come.”
Sales Manager, Western Canada
“I discovered the world was a lot bigger than I thought when I first spent a summer in Boston as an exchange student from Japan at the age of 16. Since then, I have not stopped exploring the world. I feel a strong desire to learn from every person I meet and every culture I encounter in this beautiful world. Studying abroad and learning different languages opened another door in my life and brought me opportunities I could have never imagined. It is my wish and passion to help people discover their endless opportunities in this world.”

“The first experience I had to be in a foreign country, alone, was when I was 12. I went to Canada for a junior program and had so much fun. After that, I decided to leave Japan to learn English when I was 16, and then went to Canada to complete my degree when I was 18. I know how hard it is to learn a new language and live in a new country. However, I also know how amazing the experiences can be in those years. I want many people have this wonderful feeling, and this is why I am working at ILSC. I feel so happy when I see students who had transformative experiences with us, and I always feel this is the industry I should work in.”
Sales Manager, Korea
“I love in my life to meet many people, exchange energy with each other, and spread good influence on others. I have travelled numerous places around the world and met many people and it has led me to the industry of international education. Over the past 15 years, I have felt grateful for my journey in helping students, schools, and agent partners share the best experiences together and have a positive impact on each other.”
Sales Manager, Korea, and Marketing
“One of the most transformative experiences in my life was when I decided to attend an exchange student program. During that time, I met many amazing friends from several countries. I was exposed to new ideas and perspectives that challenged my own beliefs and values. This experience also taught me a lot about myself. I discovered strengths and passions that I never knew I had. I became more confident, independent, and adventurous. Now, I am so proud that I can help student who start their journey and find new perspectives and find a new version of themselves through ILSC & ELS. I hope that by sharing my story, I can inspire others to take the leap and embark on their own transformative experiences.”
Sales Manager, Taiwan
“The year I graduated from university, I embarked on a trip to Canada. It was my first time abroad, first time flying by myself, first time living on my own, first time I understood how big the world is. I didn't plan my trip before I set off because I know that no plan is the best plan. The results confirmed that I gained more than I expected, both physically and psychologically. Not only did I improve my language skills, and made friends from all over the world, but I also got to know myself, understand what I want, and establish my purpose in life! I hope my experience can encourage those who are still hesitating; take the first step forward, and the results will be beyond your imagination!”
Director of Recruitment, China
Director of Recruitment, China
“In the spring of 2001, I got a full Research Scholarship from Michigan Technological University's PhD program in Materials Science and Engineering, but my visa application was rejected 3 times due to the 911 effect. I was so disappointed at that time. But as the old saying goes: When God closed one door, he opens another. I made up my mind to work in the Overseas Study Industry so that I could help other students who want to study in USA but have difficulty with the application process or visa interview. I worked in large Chinese agencies for many years. Under my counseling, many students who were rejected four, or even seven times in their visa interviews successfully got their visas. Though it is a little unrealistic for me to study a PhD at this age, I feel a great sense of achievement and accomplishment when my students get offers from their dream schools and get their visas with sweet smiles.
I started to work with ELS when I was working in Chinese agencies. I also attended an ELS Famtour in 2008, and it was my first trip to the United States. In 2010, the former ELS Director of Recruitment for South and East Asia called me from Singapore and asked me whether I was interested in working for ELS as Agent Support Manager. I was so excited and said YES! This moment marked the beginning of my fantastic adventure of 13 years of ELS career life! In 2022, I witnessed another historic moment, which is the merging of ELS and ILSC. The two excellent companies combed together have 100 years of history! I am very proud to be a member of this great ELS and ILSC family, and I am looking forward to another 13 years of fantastic adventures here! ”
Regional Sales Manager, South East Asia
“My transformative experience had started since I was young - learnt to meet new people and different culture by traveling to nearby countries in Asia and I explored the bigger world when I was 20 years old having an amazing life lessons in the US. Then, opportunities from this industry for last 14 years have brought me to keep learning and experiencing new things.”
Sales Coordinator, Vietnam
“My birthplace, the Central Highlands of Vietnam, was an underdeveloped area where learning a foreign language has always been a privilege. The 9-year-old me used to think I would forever be tied to this isolated rural town, until my father decided to let English step into my life despite our difficult financial situation. He believed that language, for me, would be the key to the world, and he was right. English has brought immeasurable benefits to my academic journey and is also the compass that directs me towards my destined career in the international education sector. Understanding the transformative power of language, the present-day me, together with ELS, ILSC, and Greystone College, now continues to pass on the English master key to those who seek life-changing opportunities.”
Sales Manager, Mexico
“My friends call me Esme. I am a coffeeholic, a mother, and a sales manager proudly representing ILSC in Mexico. I had my first transformative learning experience while I was doing my internship in the international affairs office of my University. I was in charge of welcoming international guests and making them feel at home! What a great job! During my university years, I got the opportunity to study abroad in the US and I did my master's degree in Spain. I consider myself an energetic traveler, as I enjoy making friends from all over the world, stepping away from my comfort zone, and challenging myself to new adventures. I'm fueled by the impact my job can make in someone's life. My goal is to take care of people, as we are working with real lives! Empathy and collaboration are keys to success, and tenets I try to live out through my interests in mindfulness, cooking, and traveling.”
Sales Manager, South America
“One of the best experiences for me has been to travel to Canada and be immersed in the culture. The first time I visited Canada was in 2011 and I fell in love immediately! I have been lucky enough to travel to different cities and provinces like New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Toronto, Vancouver, Niagara, and Montréal.
It has been beautiful and fulfilling to spend the last 20 years of my life promoting international education and being able to make the dreams of many students come true. When I follow their stories and see them living their dreams in this beautiful country, that's when I realize why my job makes so much sense.”
Sales Manager LATAM
“I traveled as an international student to the United Kingdom back in 2015 to improve my English. Since then, I have been passionate about travelling and knowing all the possibilities the world offers. This experience gave me the opportunity to have connections with different cultures and people from around the world, and thanks to this I decided that I wanted to help others to live the experience that I had. This adventure in the International education industry started 8 years ago and I’m thrilled to have gained a lot of knowledge throughout the different positions I’ve had. Working in this wonderful industry has given me the chance to visit many cities in the United States and Canada that provided me with the skills to better advise any person who is interested in studying abroad, because I strongly believe that this is a life changing decision.”

“Scuba diving is without a doubt one of the most transformative experiences for me, I started practicing this sport 8 years ago and ever since my perception of the world changed. Not only has scuba diving taken me to different place all around the world but it made me understand how complex our planet really is,and the importance of taking care of it. Thanks to this sport I have met people from all around the world and made life long friendships.”
Sales Manager, Turkey
“My first experience abroad was in London when I was 24 years old. After completing my master’s degree program, to gain international experience and improve my English, I travelled to London for an English program. To be honest, during my flight, I was so nervous due to my English level. At the airport, I saw only English words. I felt lost. I could not explain myself at the customs office. The customs officer spoke to me very calmly and understood me. The conversation took about 10 minutes. At the end of the conversation, the officer told me that after my English course, I will speak very good English. This conversation motivated me during my English language adventure in London. I worked on my English during my free time at the school. I visited museums in London. I met a lot of people from different countries. I heard different accents. I tried lots of different cuisines. I spoke to people about their lives and countries. It was a different feeling to understand foreign people in English. Sometimes, we made mistakes; although, nobody gave up. All my friends tried to speak English and understand each other. At the end of my adventure, I understood that these people have a different life than me. I need to see different countries and their lifestyles. Then, I started to work in the international education industry. I have been helping students to improve their education and professional career since 2013.”
Sales Manager Asia & Europe, Australia
“I am very enthusiastic about meeting people and working in the education industry has shown me that I can reach my professional and personal goals doing what I love the most. Helping people is something that my family always taught me and it's a strong part of my personal values. Besides that, I fell in love with the very dynamic environment that is to always be surrounded by opportunities to grow myself in all ways from lessons learned and shared with me. This is not just a transformative experience for me, but part of who I want to be.”
Sales Manager, ILSC & Greystone College Australia
“My grand life adventure kicked off in 2013 when I moved from Spain to Cyprus to continue my university studies in Tourism. Living there got me even more hooked on travel, and I spent the next few years exploring different countries around Europe. By 2016, I figured it was time for a new chapter and moved to Australia. Down Under, I ventured into the international education industry, where I discovered that I could combine two of my biggest passions: education and travel.
I enjoy helping others find educational opportunities while continuing to feed my love for travel and all the benefits that come with it. Embracing the yin-yang life philosophy, I find my love for discovering new places and cultures is matched only by my enthusiasm for good food, music, art, and living an active life.”
Sales Coordinator, Brazil
“Education has always been a vital part of my life. Since I was 14, I have been teaching math in various scientific initiation projects. With a degree in Tourism, I have found a passion for working in international education. My aim is to help people to not only learn a new language but also transform their lives through education and provide incredible international experiences. In my 6 years in this field, I have always made sure that each student has a personalized experience that truly impacts their lives.”

"Winning "The Ultimate Gap Year, Queensland - Australia," totally rocked my world and it was the first step to be where I am now. It was a game-changer! Traveling and meeting people from different countries opened my eyes to a whole new level of cultural experiences. Putting myself in those unexpected places allowed me to meet a whole new version of myself. I loved every bit of it! Exploring new cities and countries transformed me in ways I never imagined. It's crazy how much you can learn about yourself when you step outside your comfort zone. Can't wait for more adventures and personal growth on this wild journey called life!"

"Each time you make a choice, you are transforming your essence into something a little different than what you were before. In 2018 I left my comfort zone and embarked to my most recent and transformative journey, leaving my home country to go to Canada. I was seeking an experience that could enrich me culturally and bring me self-knowledge.
Life is a journey, it doesn't lead to a destination exactly, but to a transformation. When the situation is good, enjoy it. When the situation is bad, transform it. When the situation cannot be transformed, transform yourself.
I feel lucky and proud to be a member of the ILSC team, that works hard to create a culturally rich life-changing experience to people like me."

"Imagine if life didn't have those moments that totally shape who you are, open your mind, and make you grow. Going to ILSC Melbourne in Australia to learn English was a total game-changer for me. And you know what made it even cooler? Meeting a lot of amazing people. After studying at ILSC, I got a job here, which seriously elevated my life. Learning a new language and connecting with people from all over the place showed me how incredible and diverse our world is.
But the big thing? Becoming a mom, especially in a new place. Dealing with challenges without your usual family backup, gives you a whole new way of looking at life and people. It hit me how vital my role is in setting up my daughter's future. This change gave me a real sense of purpose and a stronger connection to the world around me. Just like ILSC's mission says, education, whether it's learning a language or being a mom, has this amazing power to open doors and change lives. "

Volunteering as a tour guide in Vancouver, British Columbia, was a transformative experience that allowed me to connect with people from around the world. Tours became unique cultural exchanges where I showcased Vancouver's beauty and gained insights from visitors' diverse backgrounds. I continued this global connection when I worked as an English teacher at Oxford Learning, where I engaged with students from various cultures. These experiences naturally aligned with the mission of ILSC Education Group, where we help international students achieve their educational goals across beautiful destinations.

"The first transformative experience in my life was visiting Canada as an international student when I was a child. I went to language school summer camp and then high school for 2 years. This was my first experience being in multi-cultural country and meeting various people in my life. Although I couldn't understand all languages and cultural difference at that time, it was life changing experience that I never had. This experience made me coming back to Canada when I was in early 20s and my journey in Canada is still going on. I personally experienced all issues that our international students have and will have in the future such as learning new language, understanding cultural difference, getting a visa to stay, getting a PR and getting a job in Canada, so I totally understand their pains and struggles. I'm so happy to be in the education industry so I could help people who are willing to study abroad with my experience."

"Life is a continuous journey of transformations, both personal and professional, that shape who we are at any given moment. Growing up bilingual sparked my early interest in languages. Besides making it easier to foster friendships (particularly while traveling), speaking a second language offered gateway to a different history, values, and world perception. I delved into the study of additional languages in school and university, including English, which allowed me to navigate distinct linguistic and cultural landscapes, influencing my worldview and appreciation for diversity. Furthermore, having lived and worked in two different countries and now in Australia, I continue to add new layers to my identity and broaden my perspective in unexpected ways."

"For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to travel overseas to experience new places, people, and ways of life. This passion was ignited by my parents, who immigrated to Australia by cruise ship in their twenties. Growing up, I was captivated by their stories of life in the UK and the exotic places they visited on their journey across the world. Inspired by these stories, at 17, I embarked on 1-year working holiday in the UK, where I met my relatives for the first time and explored the UK, Ireland, Northern Europe, and Scandinavia. It was an amazing year full of wonderful experiences, although it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Being young and abroad for the first time, I faced many challenges. However, overcoming those challenges helped build my resilience and confidence in what I could achieve on my own, and it opened my eyes to the opportunities that could come from living and working overseas.
As soon as I completed my university studies, I was off again - this time traveling through Europe and Canada before returning to England to work in the hotel industry. After completing a Graduate Diploma in Education, I took up a 1-year English teaching role in Japan. Upon arrival, I faced significant culture shock and found daily life much harder to adjust to than I had expected. However, as Einstein observed, 'In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.' I persevered and soon came to love both teaching English and life in Japan, with its incredible people, culture, cuisine, and art. Japan also served as a great base from which to explore other parts of Asia. What I thought would be a short stint to gain experience before becoming a high school teacher in Australia turned into something much greater. I ended up living in Japan for six years and advancing my career in English language education, a sector I have loved being a part of for over 25 years."

"I joined ILSC in 2022, and it has truly been one of the best decisions of my life. From day one, I was welcomed into a vibrant community passionate about education and dedicated to student success. Collaborating with our dedicated faculty, I strive to uphold the highest teaching standards and integrate innovative learning resources into our curriculum.
Reflecting on my own journey, I remember my first English lesson as an elementary school student in Ukraine. That moment ignited a lifelong passion for languages, leading me to learn English, German, Italian, and French. I believe that languages are gateways to countless opportunities and experiences.
At ILSC Toronto, we don’t just teach languages; we facilitate transformative journeys. Our students engage deeply with Canada’s diverse cultures, and are constantly supported as they thrive academically and achieve their career aspirations. It’s a privilege to be part of their growth and success."

"Although I had traveled and lived abroad before, a 2009 trip to Malaysia as a young adult served as a transformative experience in how I view languages, and specifically English, as a source of global understanding and interconnectivity. As a country with 137 living languages, Malaysia uses Malayan English as a de facto second language, and it is the use of this lingua franca that allows such a diverse country to unite and thrive. As I traveled the country for the first time, I immediately felt the pull to use my love of exploration to help others grow to their full potential through global education. This spark has led to an ongoing journey to explore exciting places, meet people from around the world, and (most importantly) sample unique and stirring cuisines!"

"I have worked at ELS Language Centers since 1983. I was born in Managua, Nicaragua. Right after graduating from high school, I came to the US as an F-1 student to learn English at the Georgetown University Intensive English Program. I faced there the same challenges that our students do, and can truly relate to their experiences. I then returned to the US in the early 80s due to political unrest in my native country. I enrolled in ELS Language Centers Houston to improve my English skills. Once I was finished with the program, I volunteered to help at the center and ended up starting a career at ELS. I started by manning the phones and then became the International Student Advisor. This position helped me discover my love and passion for the international student world. This passion is shared by my colleagues at ELS Language Centers where the well-being of our students is our number one priority. Adding a personal note here, I have been married for over fifty years, have four daughters and seven grandchildren, and I am lucky enough to have all of them living in my neighborhood. My hobbies are traveling, cooking, walking, listening to music, reading, and most of all spending time with my family."

"Being dropped off at the gates of a school in Spain at age 9 speaking very limited Spanish was my introductory International Student experience. Happily, I became reasonably fluent in the first six months, and that experience has driven my work in International Development and International Education for the last 34 years. I have lived and worked in Spain, Ireland, Germany, Russia, and Hungary, but have called Cleveland home for the last 27 years. I also have the parents' experience - My daughter resumes her PG work at the University of Oxford this fall. My goal for ELS is to provide the best experience possible for our students, so that they too can work towards their personal and professional objectives while contributing to the peace and well-being between nations."

"At ELS, our mission is to transform lives through language and culture, a belief that was profoundly reinforced during my time teaching English in Japan. While there, one of my various positions involved teaching a class of elderly ladies at a local community center. In the winter of 2009, we were learning Christmas songs in class when a deeply moving moment occurred. One student began to cry upon recognizing a tune from her childhood—one she had heard during the tumultuous final days of World War II, when she and her family were fleeing the American firebombing of Tokyo. When I asked if the song had evoked painful memories, she responded, "No, because it was the first American song I understood in English, and I knew that America couldn’t be all bad to make such beautiful music." The encounter impressed upon me the profound cultural impact that language learning could have, bridging divides and offering solace even amidst the harshest of circumstances. This transformative experience solidified my commitment to the ESL world, and I have dedicated my career to fostering these life-changing connections ever since."

"I have been incredibly fortunate to have served the ELS organization in various capacities. My ELS journey began as Coordinator of Youth Programs in the Special Programs Department. After several fun-filled summers of working with teen vacation and youth camp programs, I moved forward managing the Central Admissions Department as the Director. From there, my journey took an unexpected and exciting route though Abu Dhabi in the U.A.E. where I assisted with managing twelve ELS franchise locations throughout the Gulf Region. Following that extraordinary experience, my journey brought me back home to Houston where I have been the Center Director at ELS/Houston for the past 15 years. This has been my favorite part of the journey which has allowed me to contribute to an exciting and challenging learning environment while helping students achieve their goals."

"I came to ELS straight out of the Peace Corps in Moldova, where I’d taught English. I returned home not looking for a job when my friend’s mother, who worked for ELS, told me I had to apply to be the CD. It was a perfect fit after the Peace Corps. I’d wanted students to learn a new language just as I was learning theirs. I wanted my transformative experience to be a transformative one for them. We shared our cultures and customs. Recently, I came to reopen the Chicago center. One of my friends here is the cousin of my host family and a former student from Moldova. Apparently, we had helped to transform each other’s lives. This is my continued hope at ELS."

"Recently, a student came into my office. When he first came to the Minneapolis-St. Paul ELS Center at the University of St. Thomas, he had an interview with a dream company of his. He prepared for the interview with intensity, but when they asked him the most basic questions, he strugged to put together even a sentence, and the interview bombed. A few months later, after taking classes with passionate debates, creative writing assignments, and group projects that sparked imagination, he secured another interview with an even better international firm. He aced every question and they offered him a job he could never dream of before. He came into my office, and through tears said that the time he spent at our center changed his life forever. That's just one story of many, and just one of many reasons why I'm happy to be working with language learners in Minneapolis. Every day brings new stories; every day begins of someone's new chapter. Before starting with the Minneapolis-St. Paul ELS Center at the University of St. Thomas, I taught undergraduates in the field of commuications. My time in the classroom provided me with hours of teaching experiences, but it also reinforced for me the power of communication through culture. In whatever circumstance, in every nation around the globe, through whichever medium, strong communication skills create open doors: vocationally, socially, emotionally, and intellectually."

"As a lifelong lover of languages and cultures, it was an easy decision to seek out ELS. Having traveled to various countries in Asia, Europe, and across the Americas as well as having studied and speaking numerous languages (German, Hebrew, Spanish, Italian, Greek, Portuguese, and currently studying French and Arabic), I have had the privilege to meet many amazing people. Since the beginning of my journey with ELS, I have had the great pleasure of meeting many more. It has been an honor to get to know our students and accompany them on their journeys by providing them with transformative learning experiences. It is a privilege I do not take for granted, and I will be forever grateful to ELS for the opportunity."
Center Director, ELS Language Centers - Cincinnati
"The great thing about ELS is that it brings people from all across the globe together for shared experiences that are not otherwise accessible. In my years of teaching and administration at ELS Cincinnati, I have seen countless students grow into global citizens, with awareness, appreciation, and love for those around them. We work hard to provide transformative learning experiences for our students in a way that prepares them not only to use English in their daily and professional lives, but also to become caring and responsible members of our global community. I have had the privilege of seeing students learn not only from their teachers, but equally so from each other; every individual at ELS has unique perspectives and ideas to share, and we all benefit from working together, listening to one another, and expanding our cultural awareness by learning from those who are different from us. ELS is a special place that enables this to happen, and I could not be more proud to play a part in this amazing work."
Center Director, ELS Language Centers - Nashville
"Having been both an international student myself and a teacher and advisor of international students, I can say that ELS offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience to expand English learners’ horizons. During my study abroad year in France, I had first-hand experience with culture shock. I am forever grateful to the teachers and advisors who helped me during that year, and it is my privilege now to be in a position to help incoming international students at ELS. Every day I see students learn and grow not only their English skills, but also their worldviews and their social aptitude. Now as Center Director, I can help international students adjust to American living and foster relationships between peers that will last a lifetime."

"Like most of us at ELS, study abroad experiences changed and enriched my life. In 1995 after study and living abroad experiences in England, China, Taiwan and Germany, I was planning to join the U.S. Foreign service, because I felt that such a career would allow me to continue to enjoy the international travel and cross-cultural opportunities which had become a passion for me. Instead, I chose a position at ELS, and after almost 30 years now, I am so thankful that I did. ELS is an organization that strives day in and day out to provide the kind of life changing experiences for our students that I myself experienced. It has been an incredibly rewarding career. Every day I experience the unique satisfaction of interacting with and supporting our international students, and also working with colleagues who share similar interests."

"My transformative experience came while living in China, where I fully immersed myself in the magic of a new culture. This experience not only deepened my appreciation for cultural diversity but also enriched my teaching approach. I strive to create an engaging, culturally sensitive learning environment for my students, drawing on my experiences to inspire them to connect with the world around them. My experience as a teacher and administrator at ELS has allowed me the great privelege to help students find their academic paths and succeed."

"My experience as an international student, studying English for the first time while living in the US at the age of 15, gave me a lifelong appreciation for cultural exchange and has expanded my ability to interact with and understand the world around me. I lived with a host family, became part of the local community, extended my studies and was so inspired that I ultimately graduated from an American University with a degree in Tourism. Since then, the solitary goal of my personal and professional life has been to craft the perfect setting for others to have similar incredible international travel and study experiences.
I know personally that the international student experience can be just as challenging as it is exciting. Comfortable accommodations are crucial for our students, setting the stage for them to encounter these challenges with enthusiasm. I am happy to say that I have had the honor of finding safe, comfortable, and fun places for our students to live and flourish for over a decade."
